Regarding axial flow fans, some questions have been raised. Here's some basic information about axial flow fans.

An axial flow fan is one where the blades propel air in the same direction as the axis, hence the name. So, by this definition, can a regular household fan also be called an axial flow fan? If not, what are the differences?

Fans are of two types: axial flow and radial flow. The names are derived from the direction of airflow when the fan is operating. In an axial flow fan, the blades propel air in the same direction as the axis. In a radial flow fan, the blades propel air perpendicular to the axis (i.e., radially).
